Job Summary:

This Compensation Manager role is a valued resource for our minister leaders and local Human Resource teams needing assistance in defining jobs and making compensation decisions in a manner that meets our mission-focused staffing needs. This role partners with our Territorial Headquarters Compensation Director to enhance the design and day-to-day administration of the Division’s compensation administration. On a day-to-day basis, this role provides guidance for the proper classification of work, as well as compensation practices for new-hires and position changes. This role serves as the Project Leader for the Annual Performance and Compensation Review process and as a Trainer in compensation best practices.

This role is best-suited for a compensation professional interested in impacting the local community needs served by The Salvation Army.

Job Duties:

  • Job Analysis and Classification (40%)
    Works to learn and stay abreast of The Salvation Army’s key business, program and stakeholder needs in order to relate to new visions and strategic plans of leaders at all levels of the organization; serves as a valuable resource when developing, comparing, and restructuring job functions, as well as evaluating performance and achievement of measurable outcomes.
  • Compensation Analysis and Administration (40%)
    Reviews Department Head and local Officer-in-Charge requests for employee pay increases, promotions, reclassifications, or departmental changes or reorganizations; conducts job and pay analysis and provides recommendations to the Divisional HR Director; prepares documentation for Divisional Command Finance Board approval.
  • Compensation Training and Presentation (10%)
    Assists the Divisional HR Director in conducting compensation presentations, provides reports and forms needed to effectively administer compensation within the policies and procedures of the Compensation Program.
  • Annual Performance Evaluation & Compensation Review Project Management (10%)
    Plans and coordinates the annual performance review process, ensuring managers and human resource support staff are informed and properly trained.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a closely related field, AND Five years’ progressively, responsible human resources work experience is required with demonstration of job analysis and job description writing skills, and compensation administration, analysis and reporting, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Preferred Education, Experience, or Skills:

  • Valid State Driver’s License (required)
  • Certified Compensation Professional (preferred)
Work Conditions / Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Requirements:
    Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in the English language. Ability to perform both routine and complex mathematical calculations. Ability to type and operate a personal computer. Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Ability to travel as needed to conduct on-site job evaluations. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs).
  • Working Conditions:
    Work is usually performed in a normal office environment and involves travel where there can be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
