AVP Head of Compensation - Addison, TX

Job Summary:
The Head of Compensation will be an influential leader with energy, and a creative & strategic mindset; they will successfully lead National Life Group’s compensation team in developing strong executive and board-based compensation to attract, engage, and retain top talent needed to power our business strategies. The role reports into the Chief People Officer and will liaise directly with members of the Executive Leadership Team and NLG’s Board level Compensation Committee, ensuring that all compensation programs are aligned with the overall business goals and objectives.
Job Duties:
- Create and implement enterprise-wide strategies around total compensation, fostering best practices and driving operational excellence
- Develop and determine effectiveness of compensation plans in recruiting, motivating, and retaining top talent and driving employee engagement
- Identify and respond to trends in compensation packages through review and analysis of competitive intelligence – ensuring that all reward programs are equitable, competitive, inclusive, sustainable, scalable and have a positive impact on the short and long-term performance of the organization
- Promote an internal appreciation for the business value of strategic compensation---while enhancing the basic rewards structure to ensure a well-defined framework is in place
- In partnership with the head of benefits, oversee the effective communication of total compensation as one component of a total rewards package to achieve employee awareness, understanding, utilization and appreciation of all programs offered (compensation and benefits)
- Coaching and communicating a total rewards culture by partnering closely with stakeholders (head of benefits) and key business leaders, acting as a change agent to move the organization forward
- In partnership with the Chief People Officer, work with external consultants to the Compensation Committee on the design and implementation of Executive Compensation programs; develop agenda, prepare materials and presentations for all meetings
- Partner with HR leadership to bring forward new HR analytics reflective of industry trends, bringing light to new meaningful ways in which to represent HR data specific to compensation and benefits – creating strategies that are aligned with our vision, cost effective and consistent with market trends
- Build and effectively lead an exceptional compensation team; ensure that they are technically strong, possess a high level of business acumen, are effective partners and capable of delivering results on time and at quality to support organizational goals
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred), preferably in Business or Finance
- 7-10 years of diverse Total Compensation experience or consulting environment designing company-wide compensation plans ensuring correlation with business strategy
- Experience in the development/enhancement and implementation of sales and investment compensation strategies
- CCP preferred
- Strong business acumen; a solid understanding of the financial, legal and tax implications of the various compensation and benefits alternatives
- Demonstrated agile experience and advanced project management skills
- Ability to quickly prioritize competing tasks
- Demonstrated ability to deliver flexible, creative rewards strategies that link directly to operating objectives, as well as proven ability to manage the communication strategies that reinforce compensation and benefits messages
- A history of successful interaction and influence with all levels of stakeholders including the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors, Chief Financial Officer, Tax Department and other Senior Executives
