Job Summary:
The Compensation Specialist II administers, assesses, and implements SMU's compensation programs to ensure competitiveness and alignment with university objectives. This position manages job classification frameworks, compensation structures, and compliance with federal and state wage laws. The role involves supporting best practices in compensation and serving as a consultant for university stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and evaluate SMU’s compensation programs.
  • Maintain job classification frameworks and ensure compliance with wage laws.
  • Conduct market analyses, benchmarking, and manage compensation surveys.
  • Provide expertise on compensation practices and career path development.
  • Oversee the annual merit process and related communications.
  • Perform job evaluations, FLSA determinations, and manage HRIS data integrity.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in compensation administration or related HR field.
  • Experience in database/spreadsheet tools (e.g., Excel, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms).
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP) required.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Customer service orientation with attention to confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of federal/state wage laws and compensation practices.
