Trends in Performance Management and Implications for
Total Rewards
Join us for our Luncheon Meeting. Performance appraisal systems are rapidly evolving focus on coaching and dialog between managers and employees. George Benson will present current research on trends in performance appraisals moving away from forced distributions and employee ratings. We will discuss implications for total rewards professionals and the ways in which organizations can maintain differentiated pay and incentive rewards practices in these cutting-edge performance management systems.
Speaker: Dr. George Benson
George Benson is Chairman of the Department of Management and Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. He was Director of UTA’s top-ranked Masters in Human Resource Management program 2010-2018. Dr. Benson earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Center for Effective Organizations in the Marshall School of Business.
Dr. Benson’s research focuses on performance appraisal, HR measurement, employee involvement, and strategic management of human capital. Dr. Benson’s writing has appeared in Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Human Resource Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Dynamics, Sloan Management Review, and Training & Development magazine among others.
Dr. Benson’s work with companies has included performance appraisal systems, HR metrics, job design, compensation, employee engagement and retention programs, employee attitude surveys, and training design and evaluation. He has worked with a wide range of organizations including Alcon Laboratories, ADESA Corporation, Aetna, Frito-Lay, Huawei, HKS Inc., KFC-Yum Brands, Pratt & Whitney, and PriceWaterhouse Coopers. Dr. Benson previously worked as a researcher at the Association for Talent Development in Alexandria, Virginia. He also holds degrees from Washington and Lee University and Georgetown University.
